The new Avoriaz, eco-responsible from A to Z
Environment protection has always been a major concern of the Avoriaz resort and of the Pierre & Vacances Center Parcs Group. Today the focus is even stronger.
The Pierre & Vacances Center Parcs Group has designed and built three new tourist residences in Avoriaz which will open this winter. From the outset, cutting edge sustainable development criteria determined their construction. To protect natural spaces and protected areas, the extension project was limited to sectors that were already developed. To minimise the impact of the site and environmental effects of construction, the Group signed up to a Green Site charter.
Record-breaking energy performance
Seven of the eight new buildings have received THPE (very high energy performance) ranking and therefore exceed 20% of thermal regulation requirements drawn up in 2005. Moreover, the Group set up a wood burning system to heat all these new constructions. It will also provide heat and hot water to the Aquariaz, the new 2 300 m² aquacentre that will open at the heart of the resort in summer 2012, and will supply a private network in Avoriaz (11 sub-stations). This is the first project of this scale to be built at this altitude!
Environment-friendly residence facilities
The development of the residences complies with the Group’s golden rules: solvent-free coverings (paint, parquet flooring, carpet) and wooden furniture sourced from sustainable forests. Some furniture sourced in Asia was made in factories inspected throughout the production process to ensure that no pollutants were used and that ethical production norms were respected. In the apartments, low consumption lighting has been installed as well as special refuse sorting bins.
